London Public Service Network (London Connects)

The London Public Services Network (LPSN) project is led by London Connects and supported by the London Centre of Excellence. The project aims to provide a common infrastructure for public services in London by implementing network connections between London authorities.

London Boroughs are under increasing pressure to share information securely and efficiently with other public sector organisations. The capacity to securely share information across organisational boundaries within and across service areas is a current and likely future requirement of a whole range of council service areas.

The LPSN will enable London boroughs to make substantial savings through shared services and will encourage collaboration between boroughs as well as NHS and Central Government who would be included in this connectivity. As at 8 March 2007, 9 London boroughs had network connections to the LPSN.

The LPSN will make use of the existing London Grid for Learning, a tried and tested infrastructure, whose cabling currently connects the majority of London boroughs. More information about The London Grid for Learning can be found at www.lgfl.net.

In December 2006, the LCE Management Board agreed funding towards implementation of the project.

Further details of this project are available from London Connects, the lead organisation for this project.
