Data management strategy

Ensuring people have the right information to enable them to act effectively is clearly the goal of any information management strategy but it is seldom achieved.

Common failures include:
  • Too much information, requiring the person to search through and find what is relevant;
  • General documents produced for other purposes, requiring the person to analyse and interpret;
  • Incomplete information, requiring the person to search other sources;
  • Incorrect or out of date information;
  • Production of unnecessary reports;
  • Copying people in “for information” when not necessary;
  • Information Systems (IS) being considered as a separate activity.
