Highways Meet the Buyer Event

We are pleased to report that the Sustainable Highways Meet the Buyer event on April 27th was a great success!  Feedback responses show all attendees identified new sustainable products to use in their contracts, with 64% finding some and the remaining 36% finding many new products.

Purpose of the Day

  • Early engagement with suppliers of more sustainable products
  • To identify solutions for overcoming barriers in using more sustainable products within a Local Authority contract 
  • Encouraging innovation in product development through knowledge sharing

Supplier Networking
21 suppliers were invited to attend who had responded to the Prior Information Notice detailing products considered suitable to improve the sustainability of Croydon’s contract.

Workshop
Issues around improving sustainability uptake within Local Authority Highways contracts was discussed in workshops.  Issues discussed were:
1.  Risk: how to share, manage and incentivise;
2.  Cultural change: knowledge, perception, design & communication;
3.  Cost: perception & willingness.
