On 16 February 2009 we launched the new website. The is LCE site will remain for a while, but is nol onger updated or active. All the important information about current projects and upcoming events has been moved. Please head to http://www.capitalambition.gov.uk to see our new site.

Many of the activities that were part of London Centre of Excellence's work programme are still active. The change to Capital Ambition will benefit all our stakeholders and is very much in the spirit of shared services, collaboration and efficiency that the London Centre of Excellence has always championed. Three Years of Excellence

The LCE was one of nine regional centres of excellence created by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) (now Communities and Local Government (CLG) in February 2004 to deliver the National Procurement Strategy (362k) and the Gershon Review (364k).

It began work in 2005, acting as a catalyst to help the thirty two London boroughs, the City of London and the Greater London Authority (GLA) deliver the efficiency agenda by:

  • Actively promoting and funding collaborative projects that contribute to the successful delivery of the efficiency and service improvement agenda

  • Acting as a strategic catalyst to identify business opportunities for further improvement in terms of immediate cost savings, the better use of existing resources, or more effective market management.

  • Providing sources of up-to-date knowledge and information to every person working in a London borough through the availability of on-line information and resources.

  • Developing and delivering management programmes and on-line services that will improve skills and the sharing of knowledge.

  • Lobbying central government departments and agencies, and Europe, on the effective delivery of the efficiency and service improvement agenda.

  • Securing additional funding, where appropriate, from public and private sector bodies to advance the LCE's work and projects.
